State College attorney wins bid as next judge in Centre Co. court of common pleas

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — In Centre County, a long-time attorney is headed to be the next judge in the county’s court of common pleas. Julia Rater, of State College, won both the Democratic and Republican primary races in the county judge’s election, defeating fellow Democrat Gopal Balachandran. Rater, who has primarily practiced family law for nearly 30 years, stressed that experience in what she termed was her first, and only, political race of her career.

115 dogs rescued when their doggy daycare caught fire

SEATTLE (TND) — Well over 100 dogs should be feeling lucky. They were successfully evacuated after their doggy daycare center caught fire on Wednesday. The fire happened inside the Dog Resort, a daycare and boarding business in Seattle. KOMO's chopper found firefighters battling the fire as well as helping evacuate dogs from the business. Fire officials said approximately 115 dogs were brought out. Several needed medical care. So did one daycare staff member.

Miller died by suicide on April 27 at Lumber River State Park. According to Robeson County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Johnson, Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Biden releasing 1M barrels of gasoline from Northeast reserve in bid to lower prices

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration said Tuesday that it is releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from a Northeast reserve established after Superstorm Sandy in a bid to lower prices at the pump this summer. The sale, from storage sites in Port Reading, New Jersey, and South Portland, Maine, will be allocated in increments of 100,000 barrels at a time. The approach will create a competitive bidding process that ensures gasoline can flow into local retailers ahead of the July 4 holiday and sold at competitive prices, the Energy Department said.

Investigation into Boeing whistleblower's death concludes he committed suicide: CPD

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — An investigation into the death of John Barnett note, the Boeing whistleblower found dead outside of a Charleston hotel with a gunshot wound, concluded he committed suicide. Barnett, 62, died the morning of March 9. He was discovered inside a vehicle at the Holiday Inn on Savannah Highway with a gunshot wound to the head. Barnett was pronounced deceased at the scene. Overnight fire damages over a dozen homes in Easton, PA; five firefighters injured

Easton, Pennsylvania — More than a dozen homes were damaged in a six-alarm fire Monday night in Easton, Pennsylvania. Fire crews responding to the scene found a fire burning in three of the row homes, and that fire quickly spread. "We had a crew right around the corner. When they got here, they had fire showing in three dwellings and it just went the whole block." At least 15 homes were damaged by the fire, either by the flames or by smoke.
