Amazon hiring for new Altoona warehouse

Amazon officials said next Thursday, March 16 is the target date for some employees to start at the new Altoona warehouse located on Pleasant Valley Boulevard. Amazon Staffing Coordinator Norkely Pena said they're looking for people 18 and older to be part-time employees. The maximum hours per week would be 19, Pena said, and the job would mostly consist of scanning packages. Pena said during training, employees would need to work three consecutive days, but after training, workers would be able to pick three days a week to work.

Johnstown Catholic schools announce rebranding

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown area catholic schools say they are "rebranding." Officials with the Bishop McCort Catholic School announced Wednesday that the district will rename Divine Mercy Catholic Academy's east and west campuses as Bishop McCort Catholic Elementary East and Bishop McCort Catholic Elementary West. Bishop McCort Catholic High School will remain under the same name. School officials say they think this decision will strengthen their schools and bring stability to the school systems.

Man admits to filming multiple female students inside PSU shower hall

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Penn State University police say a Boalsburg man is behind bars after he admitted to filming multiple female students inside a campus shower hall. According to the affidavits, campus police received multiple complaints earlier this month of a man who was allegedly filming female students inside Hamilton Hall. Police say at least two victims reported seeing a cell phone being placed over or under the stall while they were showering.

PA Fish and Boat Commission reminds boaters to wear life jackets

The number of boaters, specifically paddlers, hitting the water is on the rise over the last two years. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is reminding everyone that it's mandatory in cold weather to wear a life jacket. The policy is in effect now through April 30. You'll need a Coast Guard approved life jacket while on boats less than 16 feet long, or on any kayak, canoe, or paddle boat.

Virginia man killed, another hurt in drug deal gone wrong outside shopping center: police

CENTREVILLE, Va. (WJLA) — A man was killed and another was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after what police believe was a drug-related shootout at a shopping center in Virginia, authorities told WJLA. Fairfax County police said two men they believe had met for a drug deal in a parking lot in Centreville wound up shooting at each other Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. The building is part of the Centre Lee Business Park, which is along Route 29 just off Interstate 66.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Ciera Deffenbaugh is going into her senior year at Forest Hills High School and she's already a certified pilot. "Some people say, 'I'm scared of planes, I'm scared to fly, I'm scared of heights.' No. Once you get in the plane, you fall in love with it. When you get a good landing, it's the best feeling in the world," she told 6 News. She started flying in May of last year after going on a discovery flight with Nulton Aviation in Johnstown.

Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) — Tulunes "Living the Dream" Bar and Grill in Johnstown was living the dream until COVID-19 hit. The bar/restaurant went from take out only, to 25% capacity, and now to 50% capacity -- but they still don't have their bar back. Danielle Penna, Co-Owner of Tulunes "Living the Dream" Bar and Grill says the bar service is very important to their business. "Sometimes in Johnstown, people like to come out after a football game and just have a drink, not necessarily a meal,” she says.

Man killed in UTV crash in Bedford County

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — One man is dead after being ejected from his vehicle following a rollover crash in Colerain Township Saturday afternoon, state police said. According to a press release, Toney Parsons, 66, was driving a Yamaha UTV south on Centennial Road just after 2:30 p.m. when he traveled off the side of the road for unknown reasons. State police said he began rotating clockwise as he slid sideways down the roadway before being ejected from his vehicle.

McDonald's management reaches out to laid off Qualfon employees

Cambria County, PA — The marketing consultant, Qualfon announced late last month that they are going to be laying off roughly 206 employees by March 24th. This comes 1 year after the Michigan based company said they would be adding over 400 employees. People who wish to remain anonymous, tell me that they “could see it coming long before” the announcement was made. They say that they are dissatisfied with the decision, and allege layoffs would happen “for the smallest of reasons.

Pair jailed following drug trafficking investigation in Johnstown

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say two men are behind bars following a months-long drug trafficking investigation in the city of Johnstown. Officials say the investigation began in February when authorities received an alleged tip of suspected drug activity at a residence along Solomon Street. Investigators say on Friday, April 26th, authorities executed a search warrant at the home and arrested 43-year-old Dashaun CarMichael and 22-year-old Tishaun CarMichael.
