NEW YORK (AP) — Trucking company Yellow Corp. has shut down operations and is headed for a bankruptcy filing, according to the Teamsters Union and multiple media reports.
After years of financial struggles, reports of Yellow preparing for bankruptcy emerged last week — as the Nashville, Tennessee-based trucker saw customers leave in large numbers. Yellow shut down operations on Sunday, according to the Wall Street Journal, following the layoffs of hundreds of nonunion employees on Friday.
Altoona native Lou Schmitt to take over for McGinnis in state House
ALTOONA, Pa. -- Altoona native Lou Schmitt claimed the Republican nod for the 79th District seat Tuesday night. Schmitt defeated Altoona School Board member Sharon Bream by a 67-33 margin.
Schmitt campaigned on pro-life, pro-Second Amendment platform with a message of adding jobs to Blair County.
Schmitt will likely take the seat held by state Rep. John McGinnis for the last six years, as no Democrat entered the race. When McGinnis first took office in 2012, he said he would only hold office for three terms.
Crash shuts down southbound lanes of Rt. 219 in Somerset County
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — SECOND UPDATE |
Officials are releasing the identity of the victim in a fatal crash on Route 219 Friday evening.
Somerset County Deputy Coroner Alexis Lichty says 85-year-old Charles Holsinger was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Lichty says a woman was taken to a medical facility for her injuries suffered in the crash.
No autopsy was performed on Holsinger officials say.

Ligonier Twp. man accused of punching, strangling woman prior to hours-long standoff
Westmoreland County, PA — Authorities in Westmoreland County say a Ligonier Township man is in custody following an hours-long standoff that began Sunday afternoon and ended early Monday morning.
Police say at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a residence along Terrace Road for reports of a domestic disturbance.
Investigators say the victim told police that she had been physically assaulted by 47-year-old Thomas Crary.
Authorities say officers helped the victim safely exit the home, at which time she told police that Crary had allegedly punched her several times in the face.

In the D5/9 5A semifinal, Central Mountain defeated Hollidaysburg 11-1.
Over in D6, it was State College emerging victorious in a clash with Altoona in the 6A semifinal 17-0.
Glendale captured its first ICC softball championship in school history, rallying from a 5-4 deficit in the 7th inning for a walk-off 6-5 win over Everett.
On the baseball diamond, Mount Union captured the ICC championship over Southern Huntingdon.
NBA guard Josh Giddey being investigated for alleged relationship with underage girl
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KOKH) — Police in California announced they are investigating claims surrounding NBA player Josh Giddey Wednesday.
As first reported by ESPN, Newport Beach Police released a statement saying they are "aware of the information being circulated online involving an alleged relationship between professional basketball player Josh Giddey and a female minor."
"The Newport Beach Police Department is actively seeking additional information related to these allegations and pursuing all leads and evidence to obtain the facts of the case,"
PSU prepares for reopening of Palmer Art Museum; two celebration events scheduled
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A preview event for a new art exhibit was held Wednesday in Centre County.
While the Palmer Museum of Art, at Penn State University, doesn’t open until Saturday, members of the media were able to get a tour of the new building.
The new museum serves Penn State's land-grant mission of teaching, research and public service for the university, its students and audiences from Pennsylvania.

Dubois community, Pittsburgh Pirates gather to open field for special needs youth
DUBOIS – The Dubois community came together today for a special ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field.
The field is designed for kids with special needs. The stadium includes turf, solid squares for bases and is wheel chair accessible.
The field so special that it brought tears to some people’s eyes.
“This just makes his day, he was so excited. They just have a ball. It’s just the best thing for these kids,” mother Amy Wrubel said.
